Cathedral

One of the most well-known landmarks in Vác is undoubtedly the Cathedral of Our Lady, which is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Vác and the fourth largest basilica in Hungary. The cathedral of monumental size can accommodate about 5,000 people. It was built between 1761 and 1777 in classicist and late baroque style.

Triumphal arch

The Vác triumphal arch, or as the locals call it Stone Gate, is the only triumphal arch in Hungary, which was built by Kristóf Migazzi in 1764 to honor the visit of Mária Theresa. Several legends are connected to the triumphal arch. According to the anecdote, since it was built in only 5 months (some sources say two weeks), the queen did not dare to drive her car under it, but got out and walked past it. The memory of the queen's visit is celebrated every year with the Váci World Festival.

Danube riverbank

One of the most beautiful parts of Vác is the Danube promenade, which is about 3 km long. If you like cycling, it will be an excellent place for you, but it is also a perfect place for walks, conversations and coffee.

Newly renovated playgrounds await the children.

Vác mummies

Those who are interested in and love history should delve deeper into the history and exciting legends of Vác.

The 265 naturally mummified human remains, as well as the skeletal remains of another 40 people, were found in 1994 during the renovation of the White Church in Vác. A part of the finds of this cultural-historical treasure can be seen in the Tragor Ignác Museum in Vác, where the era can be better understood through the excavated objects and documents on display.
